Richard S. Cupp will serve as our Executive Chairman and a director of California General Bank. Mr. Cupp has over 40 years of commercial banking experience. Most recently, Mr.Cupp served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of 1st Century Bank, Los Angeles, California from December 2002, when he joined this de novo bank in its organizational phase, and continuing with this bank until his retirement in 2007. Prior to joining 1st Century Bank, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer for a period of approximately 10 years in turnaround situations for a number of financial institutions, including serving for a short-term assignment from January 2002 until May 2002, as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Pacific Bank, Torrance, California, from 1999 to 2002 as the President and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank of Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills, California, from 1997 to 1999 as President and Chief Executive Officer of HF Bancorp, the parent company of Hemet Federal Bank, Hemet, California and from 1993 to 1997 as President and Chief Executive Officer of Ventura County National Bank, Ventura, California. Previously, Mr. Cupp served as Executive Vice President at California Federal Bank, Los Angeles, California, from 1983 to 1993 and was with First Interstate Bank, Los Angeles California, as a Senior Vice President from 1963 to 1983. Mr. Cupp earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from UCLA and an MBA in Finance from the University of Southern California.
William A. Hawkins will serve as our President and Chief Executive Officer and as a director of the California General Bank. He has lived in the San Gabriel Valley for the past 25 years. Mr. Hawkins has over 35 years of financial services experience, including 12 years of banking experience, serving most recently, from 1999 to 2003, as the initial President of IndyMac Bank’s Consumer Banking Group in Pasadena, California. From 1998 to 1999 Mr. Hawkins served as the President and Chief Operating Officer and a director of American General Bank, FSB, Houston, Texas and from 1981 to 1998 Mr. Hawkins served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Home Savings of America (Griffin Financial Services), Irwindale, California. From June 2005 until leaving to begin organizational activities with respect to California General Bank in June 2006, Mr. Hawkins served as the interim Chief Operating Officer of Operation HOPE, Inc., Los Angeles, California, a not-for-profit community service organization that advocates economic employment for disadvantaged individuals and teaches financial literacy. Mr. Hawkins has also been a Trustee of the Columbia Funds, a mutual fund, since 2004. Mr. Hawkins is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the San Gabriel Valley Red Cross and the Board Chair of Leadership in Pasadena. He also serves as a Board member of Operation Hope, Los Angeles. Mr. Hawkins holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from West Coast University, Los Angeles, California and a Masters degree in Business Administration from University of La Verne, LaVerne, California. In addition, Mr. Hawkins is a Certified Financial Planner and a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter. He has served as Chairman of the NASD Bank Broker-Dealer Committee and as Chairman of the NASD District Business Conduct Committee. He holds a Series 7, Series 24 and Series 63 License from the NASD.
Joseph W. Kiley III served most recently as the President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors of First Bank of Beverly Hills, Calabasas, California, from 2001 until his resignation in June 2006. Previously, Mr. Kiley served as the Executive Vice President and CFO/Operations and on the Board of Directors of National Mercantile Bancorp, Los Angeles, California from 1996 to 2001, and as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Hancock Savings Bank, Los Angeles, California, from 1991 to 1996. He has also served as Vice President, Deputy Controller for First Interstate Bank of California, Los Angeles, California, and as Corporate Vice President, Assistant Controller, for Gibraltar Savings, Simi Valley, California. He also previously served as an audit manager for KPMG, Los Angeles and Sacramento, California. Mr. Kiley received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the California State University, Chico, California. He is a Certified Public Accountant as well as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Kiley will serve as a director of California General Bank.
Beatrice Proo was elected to the Pico Rivera City Council in 1992, and re-elected in 1997 and 2001. She has also served as Mayor of Pico Rivera three times. Ms. Proo served as the founding Chairman of the Board of Pacific Western National Bank from 1980, until the sale of that bank in 2001. She currently serves as a Board Member and Vice Chairperson for the L.A. County Local Agency Formation Commission and was elected to the Los Angeles-San Diego Rail Corridor Agency. Ms. Proo is currently a member of the Executive Board of the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority and was a Regional Council member of the Southern California Association of Governments for thirteen years as well as a past President and founding Executive Board Member of the Gateway Council of Governments. Ms. Proo has also served as a Director on the Gateway Cities Partnership Board, as Chairperson of Gateway Cities Council of Government Transportation Committee, on the 48th Agricultural District Board, and on the YMCA Executive Board. Ms. Proo is a past President of the League of California Cities’ Los Angeles Division, former President of the Pico Rivera Chamber of Commerce, and former President and Board Member of the Tri-Cities Regional Occupational Program. Ms. Proo is a former master teacher and school principal. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Mount St. Mary’s College, where she also earned lifetime teaching credentials. Ms. Proo will serve as a director of California General Bank.
Nathaniel B. Read has been the sole owner of Read Communications, a public relations firm specializing in government relations and crisis management since 1985. He has lived and worked in the San Gabriel Valley for 36 years. He is a past president of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and sat on the executive committee of the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership. Mr. Read served in the Navy during the Vietnam conflict and rose to the rank of Captain in the Naval Reserve. Mr. Read received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Austin College, Sherman, Texas. Mr. Read will serve as a director of California General Bank.
Louis P. Smaldino has been the President and owner since 1971 of Mr. S Liquor Marts, Inc., a chain of liquor/convenience stores located in the San Gabriel Valley and throughout Southern California; He has also been the owner of Gateway Management Company, a real estate management and development company in Whittier, California, since 1986. From 1965 to 1969 Mr. Smaldino, a CPA, worked for the public accounting firm of Ernst and Ernst. Mr. Smaldino also served as a director from 1975 to 1982, and as President of the Temple City Chamber of Commerce during the period from 1981 to 1982. Mr. Smaldino received his Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in accounting from Loyola University, Los Angeles, California and his MBA in Finance from University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Mr. Smaldino will serve as a director of California General Bank.
Paul L. Talbot has served as the Manager of a State Farm Insurance Agency in Duarte, California since 1994. Mr. Talbot is a LSA5 licensed insurance agent authorized to sell Property and Casualty, Life, Health and Long Term Car insurance. From 1984 to 1996 Mr. Talbot was President of California Foodservice Corporation which owned and ran various restaurants. Mr. Talbot served on the Alhambra City Council from 1994 to 2006, serving three terms as Mayor of that city. Mr. Talbot also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Alhambra Hospital Medical Center and as the District Chairman of the Mission Amigos District of the Boy Scouts of America. He also serves as President of the Alhambra Children’s Foundation. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from UCLA, Los Angeles, California. Mr. Talbot will serve as a director of California General Bank.
Dr. David A. Thompson, M.D. is a practicing neurologist and has owned and operated his own medical practice in the City of Glendale, California since 1975. Dr. Thompson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania and an MD degree from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. He will serve as a director of California General Bank.
Michael A. Zoeller has been the President and co-owner of Riedon, Inc., an Alhambra, California-based manufacturer of wirewound, thick film and metal foil resistor products, since 1996. Previously, Mr. Zoeller served in multiple capacities at Imo Industries, Inc., both in Pasadena and San Dimas, California, serving from 1986 to 1995 as Vice President and General Manger of Imo Industries’ CEC Instruments Division, and from 1983 to 1986 as the Division Manager of Engineering. From 1973 to 1983 Mr. Zoeller served in a number of technical management positions with Bell and Howell, E&IG, including Chief Engineer, Magnetic Heads; Manager, Research; and Division Manager, Engineering, ultimately serving as Vice President of Magnetic Operations from 1980 to 1983. Mr. Zoeller received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Wisconsin and a Masters degree in Engineering and a PhD in Engineering Science from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. He will serve as a director of California General Bank. |
